What causes dry, dusty patches in an otherwise good gunite spray pattern?

Dry or dusty patches point to a nozzle water-ring fault — a clogged or worn water ring fails to wet out the dry material evenly at the point of discharge, and is checked separately from the rotor and air supply during diagnosis.
